Kinkakuji is one of those architectures that makes you do a double-take. The architect managed to make the gold design not only elegant but also breathtaking, without it feeling tacky. Compared to many of the great temples I've visited, Kinkakuji is smaller in size, yet its design and location create a successful illusion of an unapproachable and undisturbed atmosphere.
